Gallup Poll: Any GOP Candidate Could Beat Obama

According to the latest Gallup poll, President Barack Obama would lose to an unnamed Republican candidate if the election were held today.

obama, gallup, poll• Forty-four percent of respondents said they would vote for a Republican candidate when asked whom they would support in the 2012 election.

•Thirty-nine percent of participants said they would vote for Obama, while 18 percent of respondents said they had no opinion.

The no-named-Republican survey seems to fly in the face of other recent polls that have Obama prevailing in matchups with the current field of Republican candidates.

• An NBC/Wall Street Journal poll indicates that Obama would beat Republican Mitt Romney, 49 percent to 43 percent.

• The same poll indicates that Obama would win against Republican Tim Pawlenty by 50 percent to 39 percent.

The fact that a generic Republican candidate fares better than any of the actual Republican candidates seems to indicate a general dissatisfaction with the Republican field.
